Summary

A nice hike along the Mountain Loop Highway taking visitors to a small glacier mass at the bottom of Big Four Mountain with naturally forming ice caves at the bottom.

Weather Conditions

Mostly cloudy with temps in the low 60s. There was not any wind. By the end of the hike, clouds started burning off and some blue sky was visible.

Trail Conditions

Overall, the trail was well maintained. Initial sections of the trail are accessible but once you get off the boardwalk section, the trail is earthen.

Fauna

A rather large garter snake was found on a bridge but quickly slithered off as I approached. Heard a bird or two but no other animals spotted.

Flora

Some plants with rather large leaves. Small flowers were in a couple spots along the trail and there were more at the trail end. The berry clumps of Devil’s Club were bright red against the greenery.

Scenic Views

Although the clouds obscured part of the views of the surrounding mountains, Big Four Mountain and Mt. Dickerman made their presence known.
