Diablo Lake is surrounded by snow-capped mountains and turns a gorgeous turquoise blue in the summer. This unique color is because of tiny rock pieces called glacial flour, which are carried into the lake by streams that feed glaciers. SR 20 typically closes about mid-November and reopens in mid-April.
