Summary

A nice nearby hike for folks in western Skagit County or Whidbey Island to get to and after a, relatively short distance be able to get spectacular views across the Salish Sea.

Weather Conditions

Clear, sunny skies with temps in the upper 60s/lower 70s.

Trail Conditions

Overall the trail conditions were good. There were a few spots nearer Sares Head that could probably use some trimming back - especially for those taller hikers.

Fauna

Primarily hearing birds starting with the chickens across the street from the parking lot to what sounded like an Eagle feeding its young high in the forest canopy.

Flora

Some trees with fungi growing out of the bark. A little late for the flowers that have been known to bloom at the viewpoint.

Scenic Views

Views across the Salish Sea to the Olympic Mountains, San Juan Islands, West Beach in Deception Pass State Park to the South, and glimpse of Skyline Marina to the North.

Hiking Companions

None, a solo hike today.

Hiking Gear

Nothing in particular today.

Food and Water

If a nice clear day, would be a great spot to have some lunch at Sares Head.
