Notes

This short section of the trail is a great warm up for a season of hiking - although this trail is great any time of the year. For those interested in a longer trek, the trail continues for another 10 miles beyond the campground.

From the trailhead, you'll be treated with a range of sound levels - from the rushing of water over boulders to the faint sound of a woodpecker pecking in the distance or a small babbling brook underfoot.

This is a great trail to bring the camera as the view of Mount Baker and Mount Shuksan from the Maple Grove Campground can be spectacular. A great time for photo ops would be a clear to partly cloudy day when the lake is calm. Depending on when you take this trek, you may be fortunate to see fish jumping out of the water.

Be a map and compass expert! Make sure you have both physical ones, paper and mechanical, respectively. Phones can die on the trail, so it’s better to be safe than sorry.
