Maple Pass
Directions
I-5 to Cook Road (exit 232) east to Highway 20. Turn left (east) and continue about 38 miles east of Newhalem. At Rainy Pass, between mile markers 157 and 158, park at the picnic area on the south side of the road. Find trail No. 740 with a trailhead sign reading "Lake Ann-Maple Pass."
Notes
Going counterclockwise provides a steeper way on the way back. Skip the off-shoot heading down toward Lake Ann and continue up to Heather Pass.
Signal
Forests can be thick, but there are ways to get help if you’re lost. Keep a whistle and a metal mirror handy. Also, wear bright colors so rescuers can spot you easily.
