Notes
On June 20, 2025, the Washington State Department of Natural Resources announced the opening of new trails at the Olsen Creek State Forest in Whatcom County. There are now seven miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding.
The DNR says the trails offer stunning views of Lake Whatcom, Bellingham Bay, and the Canadian Cascades on clear days. Parking is limited at the Y Road Trailhead, and you don’t need a Discover Pass here. But keep in mind that this is a new DNR trail system, so a future trailhead parking location might require the pass.

Check for Ticks
Make it a habit for you and your hiking companions to check for Ticks. If hiking with a fur baby, don't forget to check them too.
