Within Buckhorn Wilderness this trail setting includes conifer forest, wildflowers, lake meadows, alpine lake, and rugged mountains. Trail is heavily wooded the first 2 miles and then it opens up with views of mountains and lakes.
The trail is 5.5 miles in length from upper Mt. Townsend Trailhead. Grade is 20% to Silver Lakes Trail for 3 miles and 8% the last 2.5 miles.

Horses can be startled easily, so it’s important to make your presence known when approaching stock. Stand on the lower side of the trail to avoid startling them.
